Re: Do you think she stands a chance?

Im not in the island right now but i got news from a friend in Marigot french side, looks like i loose everything, the workshop is banged to bits, tools, materials, 2 dingys, etc...
Im glad i sold my beloved CSY 2 years agoo, i guess im going to mess with Fiberglass for a year or 2 , masts racks are gone, the masts crane is fukked, several Friends loose their boats at the yard, reports for missing people, french side is literally trashed to bits , this is going to be really tough the coming months...

Sorry to hear that. Glad you are safe. Fingers crossed that much is salvagable.

Stand a chance? Highly unlikely. I am in the same situation, on the hard in the BVI, bare poles and strapped down to sand screws but fully expecting a total loss.

Rorzech, bury the keel and thats about all you are going to find in the marina after the storm. The storm surge will snap it off IMO.

Re: Do you think she stands a chance?

An attempt to be a little optimistic. I was at Airlie beach three weeks after cyclone debbie hit it this year, I was surprised how quickly the place bounced back. Also although there were alot of yachts lost there were many that weren't.

I hope you guys get lucky, sometimes you do.

Cheers Dale.

Re: Do you think she stands a chance?

PLS report when you have news from her.

The system is hell but by most recent data Marteen did not get a direct hit. Anguilla did. The wind sensor in the airport stopped working and so we do not know how hard it blew. Dutch and French two rich nations and they cannot afford a networked wind sensor?

My fingers crossed for your boat. She may be fine. She looks heavy, well supported and the rig is not all that big.

What about those neighbouring boats though? Are they equally well locked 'anchored'?

If so, it is odd they are smiling ... and wearing lifejackets in what looks like a hotel room on the n-th floor.

The wind force does not look to high though, his bandana is still on and the girl did not even care to tie her hair. Easy peasy.

Real stuff. Awesome. I went online too late and this camera was already wiped out. Should have left recording on.

Scary too. Like hell.

Re: Do you think she stands a chance?

Barnakiel, pretty uncharitable remarks there. Storm hit in the early hours, the little video in the day light but still windy. Did you notice the roof tiles on the balcony and the flooding down below.I doubt they have got out of wherever they are sheltering yet. Smiles are quite often a response to stress. It took me more than half a day to calm down before i ventured out the door to see the destruction from Ivan. The long video catches the real terror and if you turn the volume right up for the Whole of the video you might get some idea of the stress involved. However 20 mins does not compare with hours of noise. I hope that some people are able to post some before and after storm. Can't remember who said it but the reference to coconuts doing 200+ MPH is no joke along with complete/parts of corrugated iron roofs scything through the air.

I think they were streaming live and were reporting from the eye of the storm. She is a very bubble type of person so even when nervous she tends to smile. I have a nephew like that, he can be scared sh%^less and still laughs. very confusing. It is just his nervous reaction. hard for him to control it.
