From Cape Town, South Africa

Can anyone point to resources about sailing to the States from South Africa. Seasons and prevailing winds and weather patterns.
Just curious.

Oh goodie! I love playing Gord!!!!

Right-ho young buck! Shove this URL up your 'puter and get the NOAA Pilot Charts showing you the Atlantic Ocean every month of the year and you can select your Date with Destiny!

http://www.nga.mil/portal/site/maritime/?epi_menuItemID=a633978aca46a1625b2a7fbd3227a759&e pi_menuID=35ad5b8aabcefa1a0fc133443927a759&epi_bas eMenuID=e106a3b5e50edce1fec24fd73927a759

Then select (in the left menu) Publications
Then from the Drop Down Menu: Atlas of Pilot Charts

Plus read the last few chapters of Joshua Slocum Saling alone around the world.

we made the trip this winter. left cape town end of january which is during their summer. had a light downwind sail stopping at st helena and ascension islands. if you leave during the south africa summer you should be fine. otherwise you may have a few challenging days until you get away from the low pressure systems that characterize the south african winter.
