Ft. Lauderdale to Annapolis in the spring?

When is the earliest safe time to sail from Fl to Md? We'd like to move our cat up at the end of March, but we're concerned about the weather. Our mast (70+) is too tall to use the ICW, so we'll have to go outside.

Unpredictable weather notwithstanding, can anybody share good early spring passage advice?

Thanks in advance!

Did it mid March. Just look for a 4 day window with no northerlies and ride the Stream.

Well, assuming it wasn't a death-defying ride (lol), how long did it take you?

Thanks for the response; at least now I know it's doable.

Took 5 1/2 days on a 44 foot mono.
Almost got boarded by the CG the first night. Be sure you have your registration and safety gear in order.

End of March this year: 50 ft trawler, 7-8 knots
Chub Cay to Beaufort, 90 or so hours.
Gulf Stream a large part of the way and flat calm.
Lucky weather window.
Its all weather.
