Gas cylinder connection threads

When one travels around the world, one has to face many different standards.

Thus, I expected that in the Caribbean gas cylinders have different threads than in Europe. As it is now rather easy for me to get suitable adapters I like to ask in this forum if someone can tell what kind of threads and sealings are used in all or in parts of the Caribbean?

Drawings or links to drawings would be additionally helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Gas cylinder connection threads

I've been in the Eastern Caribbean for four years. On my boat I have one propane cylinder bought in Croatia, one in Greece. The two have a slightly different thread.

I have had no problems getting them filled here. I guess they are creative here on these islands.

I can not say much about the Caribbean--but the threads on bottles for Butane and those for Propane or Propane-butane mix are, or used to be, different because some stoves are not compatible with Propane.

Re: Gas cylinder connection threads

In the W Carib/Latin America, a "bayonet" style of combined connector/regulator is quite common. Very poor design...they dont fit securely and leak. Some countries in the region are converting to POL style fttings which are way better.

However, POL fittings are still uncommon in many areas so getting a tank with a POL fitting filled can sometimes be problematic or at least involve delays.

So, I built an adaptor which can be used to fill my POL style tanks from a local bayonet connector style tank. Its not uncommon for cruisers here to have such fill adaptors.

Latin American style connector/regulator:
