Going Ashore in Fort Myers Post Hurricane

So it would appear there are no more docks. Not much left of the marinas.

Does anyone have any local knowledge about where to go ashore with the dinghy in downtown Fort Myers?

Fort Myers Yacht Basin is now closed.

Can you still go ashore there? Or is there a more appropriate spot?

I have a guest flying in.

I'm not sure about Ft Myers,. I live in cape coral at the Tarpon Point Marina. The transient dock is open. You can anchor in glovers bight and dinghy in. All of the restaurants (market 92, naughty mermaid, gathers, pinchers) are open.

OK. I looked that up. Not a bad set up. Thank you for letting me know about it.

Only issue is I’m trying to be kind of close to the airport. It’s one heck of a Uber ride over to Cape Coral. Pricey. But being better protected would be nice.

Not that the winds are very fierce the next couple days, but there is definitely some fetch in downtown fort myers. Could make for rough dinghy rides.

Uber from here to RSW is about $31-$35 one way.

Glover Bight is fairly protected from everything except a WSW wind, and even then the fetch isn't that large.

Not trying to convince you of anything. Just giving you options. If you do end up anchoring here, let me know. We'll walk down and grab a drink with you at the Naughty Mermaid! Or if you need to get to the grocery store or anything, let us know as well and we can help out.

Hmmmm. Sounds pretty good. Is it nice to walk around there? I was thinking some of the draws in fort Myers was that there are all of those little shops and restaurants.

I’ve never actually been over to that spot before.

Definitely considering it. And thank you very much for the kind offer about the grocery store. I just stocked up before leaving Saint Pete. So I should be good. But that was a really kind offer.

Re: Going Ashore in Fort Myers Post Hurricane

It's not Ft. Myers. There is just one little strip of 4 restaurants, a boutique, and an ice cream/fudge shop. Ft. Myers downtown definitely has more things to do and you can spend more time walking around. Cape Harbour, right around the corner, has 3-4 restaurants as well and about 4-5 little clothing shops. It is all pretty niche to be honest.

If you have a sailboat, I assume you've looked at the bridge clearance to get to Ft. Myers. The Cape Coral Bridge (and the other three up to Ft. Myers) are on the river, not the ICW and their vertical clearance is only 55 feet.
