Re: Going south from Annapolis in December

I'm curious as to why all you folks are leaving so late?

Right leave sooner. The best sailing has just begun here on the chessie. Worst sailing is June to August. This is mid sailing season for those that know.

Flagorio, glad that ended up well. Surprising how the little stuff can end up. Even the edge of the channel should keep you out of the big boys way, but they can really surprise you. Did you make it to Deltaville, or Norfolk?

Re: Going south from Annapolis in December

Thanks for all the replies and information since my first post about leaving Annapolis in early December. Our new engine is in and the installation will start on Wednesday. If all goes well we are hoping to leave Back Creek Monday of next week. We will likely go to the Solomon's the first day....
(Our delay was due to dysfunctional engine.)

Re: Going south from Annapolis in December

I just posted a thread WRT travelling from Norfolk to Florida in early Feb. and it looks like we will be breaking out the "big" gear -floater suits, lined boots balaclavas and mittens - until we get to warmer clines. We are hoping to start shedding layers after the first week. Most of our travelling will be in the AICW but, if the opportunity arises, we will do a couple of overnights. Have a safe and enjoyable trip.

I left late because I am a commuter cruiser. I fly to work on Mondays and return on Thursdays. I cruise or work on the boat fri-sun. I take vacation for longer hops. My current project is in Mexico so some weekends I just have to rest.
I am currently in Norfolk for the month and will be leaving shortly. I often rent a slip for the month to get the monthly rate instead of the transient rate. I usually break even after 10-15 days.
