Guatemala/Rio Dulce to Florida; any suggestions?

We're leaving Rio Dulce on the 22nd of April and are heading up north to Florida. We don't plan to check into Belize but will do so in Mexico. Does anybody have any route suggestions, knowledge about dangerous spots etc?
LOA 35ft and a 6ft draft.

I hear that officials are watching the atolls off Belize more these days, but have not run into them myself.

Haven't heard of any security issues along the Mexican coast (and this route obviously keeps you well clear of Honduras).

If you run well offshore outside the Belizean reef/Mexican Coast, you can get a nice push from the Yucatan current (fair weather strategy only).

Re: Guatemala/Rio Dulce to Florida; any suggestions?

We hopped up the coast, checked in to Belize at Big Creek (Placencia) ate some of Tutti Frutti's amazing homemade gelato, then on up, anchored at Caye Caulker, took a water taxi up to San Pedro (Ambergris Caye) to check out (easy easy easy) then left from Caye Caulker (avoids the small shallow reef cut at San Pedro). Sailed overnight from there all the way to Isla Mujeres -arrived at dusk the 2nd day, but since we've been in & out several times, no problem anchoring. Wouldn't recommend trying to anchor in Isla after dark with all the island lights - very confusing. Then back to Charlotte Harbor (FL West Coast) from Isla. On the way down, we stopped at Bahia De Ascencion in Southern Mexico and always wanted to anchor on the Chinchurro (SP?) Bank, but weather didn't give us the chance. Be safe and enjoy the sail! (Oops, just noticed the OP was planning to leave the 22nd - I'll leave this in case they had a weather delay.)

btw, right now is the sailing season in belize...
(just the month of april)

my suggestion.. provision in fronteras..and dont bother checking anywhere in belize.

dont stay more than 1-2 days at any anchor...you'll be "in route" to mexico
