June sailing in Florida

I wanted to go sailing w my son for a few days when he graduates in June. Found a place thru ASA in St Pete that rents a Hunter 29 reasonably.

I'm a fair skinned Northerner and I'm afraid it will be too hot by that time to be enjoyable .

Do you sail the area at this time of year? Or can you suggest somewhere else on the east coast I can rent a small cruiser for a few days with somewhere enjoyable to sail?

I live about a hour south of St. Pete. June is a fine time to sail. July and August get too hot and humid for my wife.

Re: June sailing in Florida

We sailed there last July/August, Ft Lauderdale to Key West, then to St Pete and back to Marathon. Hot, yes, but not unbearable and definitely enjoyable. I'm a whitey from northern climes, and I felt the heat at first; lots of sunblock and plenty of water... My wife is latina and she just lay in the sun and tanned. We'll be there again this year with our kids. Just look out for local thunderheads and keep online for hurricane warnings. We saw the most awesome lightning there, pretty frightening when it gets close though.

Re: June sailing in Florida

It depends on how well you handle the heat and humidity.

I live here and June is really hot for me but there is usually some wind.

July and August are miserable. Calm throughout the day with the thunderstorms in the afternoon.

June can be the same way.
