Just arrived in Grenada

Hello all,

Just settled in at St George’s near the Grenada Yacht Club for a while, with that nasty little disturbance forming and heading for the outside of the Lesser Antilles I felt it was time to head south to a safer port.

It appears that a number of other liveaboard/cruisers all had the same idea or maybe it was that evening BBQ and Rum on the beach at Antigua that sealed the deal to move south. Anyway as I left there were several other boats making preparations to get underway.

I normally do not talk much on the SSB as I prefer Ham but I marked my passage by speaking to two other boats who were following a day behind me, giving them wind, sea and shipping reports. Hopefully they will pull into a nice anchorage tomorrow.

Well it is time to make dinner and get settled in for the evening, tomorrow I head to town for some much needed supplies, laundry and a proper shower

Re: Just arrived in Grenada

It is nice to have a stable and fairly speedy internet.

My water tanks have been sanitized, purged 3 times and are full, fuel tanks are topped off and the 1 micron polishing filter system is humming along nicely, then I emptied and flushed the holding tank. With a little help from a rented pressure washer the decks are clean.

The freezer and the refrigerators are full as is the pantry, laundry is done and I was able to take that long shower (I even shaved ).

I just heard from one of the boats I spoke about, they cleared customs and are settling in after their passage, no news about boat #2 yet.

It is getting busy here, at least 5 boats pulled in today while I was doing my chores and from what I understand many more are heading here.

Tomorrow I will be purchasing some excellent aged dark Rum, if the price is as promised I will get least 2 cases.

LoL! Yes I have a full-size shower aboard, though I rarely use it. I normally anchor out well away from anyone else and shower on the swim platform. During my passage down here I was not able to shower so the reference to a proper shower means I was able to take a LONG shower ashore.

Even though I have an excellent watermaker I do my best to conserve fresh water as the RO membranes have a limited number of gallons before they begin to degrade. Of course now that I am in port for a while I will be using more of my own water. Hence the tank cleaning today.

Grenada is not known for its rum. Best buy one bottle first and see if you like it.

I beg to differ on Grenadian rum! Our favorite in the Caribbean is Westerhall Light Rum. Though DePaz on Martinique is also pretty special.

The 7 year old dark Westerhall is pretty good for the price, but I would not want it by the case. If you want a good sipping rum stop in Martinique where you can get 2 and 3 liter boxes of Rhum Vieux.

Rhum Vieux is exceptional, I am down to my last few bottles.

Re: Just arrived in Grenada

Sunday the 2nd boat I was expecting pulled into port, so everyone is safe and accounted for.

It looks like the storms failed to develop, good!

Still I will be staying down here until the Hurricane season is over.

Now that the weekend is over I will be able to do a little more maintenance on my floating home. Ah! The chores never stop, this weeks project is to do a bit of bottom cleaning and give both hulls a careful inspection.

Other than that the weather is PERFECT.

Life is short, sail, swim, eat, drink and enjoy life while you can.

To many people here, with the weather looking better I will be heading to Palm Island tomorrow morning at daybreak.

Now off to town for some last minute supplies.

B23iL23, What is holding you back? Everyone says money or family, work, work, work. I have met many couples with children, several with babies sailing and living the dream.

Do not be jealous, go sailing, live the dream it is easier (and harder) than you think but sitting at home dreaming will get to nowhere.

There is no better time than now.

SeaQuest OE II

By-the-way, I have finished preparations and will be sailing at first light.
