Leaving a boat near N.Y., N.Y.

Hi,

We are heading up the East Coast and will need to fly back to Europe for a couple of weeks in July, so will have to leave our 40 ft mono somewhere. Any suggestions?

Requirements:
1. Secure: marina or well monitored mooring ball
2. Within easy (and cheap) day of travel to New York. (We may wish to stay for a couple of days in the city before departure)
3. Affordable.

I have no idea of what public transport is like in this region, so guidance on this would be particularly helpful.

Thanks in advance

A good option would be Port Washington, Long Island. It's about an hour easy LIRR train ride from NYC. They have several operators with mooring balls available and also the town runs temporary mooring balls. There's also Brewers offering slips.

Liberty Landing Marina probably be the closest to NYC but it's expensive. It's located just across the Hudson in New Jersey.

The 79th St Boat Basin may have guest moorings available. It's located in the Hudson River at 79th St in Manhattan. Rates are $30/night, $180/week. It's operated by the New York City Parks Department. Tender service is not available, but you can't get much closer to NYC.

You can't leave the boat unattended on a transient mooring. You need to be living on the boat.

I was thinking Liberty Landing until the OP's third requirement - 'Affordable'. LL is great but not cheap.
