Re: Need advise, Newport beach to FL to Bahamas

Every week this question appears at least once on CF. And as usual someone like me will tell you to go to ACTIVECAPTAIN, CRUISERSGUIDE.com or MARINAS.com and get current information on marinas and boatyards. Plus tons of cruising info on anchorages, charts, ect. These sites have current contact information, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and detailed information about the marina, including info on the ability to do your own work. These sites will give current, up to date information.

These sites do provide some great info, but there are so many facilities listed that a personal (or as personal as a stranger on CF) recommendation can really help point someone in the right direction :-)

Gotta reduce drag! A clean "hull" gives you higher "boat" speed!

You could always truck your boat to the Fort Lauderdale area, where Playboy Marina is a good DIY yard. Pretty easy sail from there to Marathon, if you choose that option, good shakedown before crossing to the Bahamas.

Most importantly, have fun and be safe!

Playboy would have been ideal bit my boat at 25' is to small for their upgraded lift

Re: Need advise, Newport beach to FL to Bahamas

Quick update: thank you all for the guidance! I called every suggestion and, although I was surprised that many were not a good fit for varying reasons, I'm very happy to say that I have viable options in indianatown and harbortown. Key logistics are now pretty much set and it's on to the 1001 other things! I'm meeting locally locally with a salty dog that has 20 years of experience in the area and that will help me determine the launch Point.
