Playa Del Carmen

I am looking for information on the cruising area of Playa. We would like to either drop the hook next week there or find a marina in the area.. Any help would be amazing
Thanks

Here's a link to a page of photos of Playa del Carmen before and after Hurricane Dean:

And here's a link to someone's Hurricane Dean blog from Playa del Carmen:

This is not, perhaps, the best time of year to be cruising that area.

Thank you for the links, we are currently held up on Isla Mujeres in the Lagoon, we waited on parts almost two months, hence we are not here by choice but rather mechanical and technical failure. After two sever hurricanes passing just south of us, one kicking up winds of over 68mph with gusts we are well aware that there are many places to be that would be a whole lot safer.

Since we have at least a weeks window of warning as per hurricanes/tropical storms we would like to do some day or day and 1/2 trips around the area, Cancun, Playa Del Carmen etc are very close to Isla Mujeres, however most of the guide books are quit dated or make no mention.

Ativa,

Please keep us posted on what you learn. I've been in and out of Isla Mujeres a couple of times and always wondered what the cruising opportunities are. North looks inviting as there is not much there...

Hope to be back that way in the spring during the St. Pete race....

Just a quick up-date on Playa Del Carmen. There is a ferry dock in Playa, however it is not usable for non commercial boats,. if you head a bit further south to Adventuras there is a great Marina there called Marina Adventuras, it is a large complex with many side slips available. Be aware that the cost is a little large but there are willing to negotiate for sailors. I stayed a few weeks there waiting a weather window to head further south. The marina is quit protected but DO NOT attempt to go in at night as the channel going in is poorly lit and the current is swift and strong, not to mention there is another channel further south that takes you into an Island.
The marina has a few grocery stores, atm, car rental and dining. There is not showers as advertised but there is one of the most reasonable laundry services I have used.
I dropped a hook in the small bay for the night and went in in the morning after watching the dive boats come in and out.
