Propane in Long Island Sound?

Not an emergency yet, but am wondering where to refill my propane in the Long Island Sound area? I am hoping for somewhere I can walk from a dingy dock or Water Taxi stop.

At Oyster bay at the moment. Heading East but can backtrack for a refill.

I believe most LPG refill stations are on Route 25. Not a walk from the dinghy dock but it wouldn't be a long Uber ride. There's a Uhaul on Jericho Turnpike that refills LPG tanks.

Ther is a truck stop near Milfort CT. Harbor that fills propane.
Easy Uber ride.

If you are in Groton Area go into Pine Island Bay and take a Town Mooring. There are two available at the entrance of the bay. Take your dingy up the Poquonock River to the Bluff Point State Park parking lot. About a 3/4 mile walk to Johnson's Hardware.

I believe Shields Hardware on Main Street in Port Washington (Manhasset Bay) will swap (not refill) propane tanks. They are about 1/4 mile walk from the dinghy dock by Stop and Shop.

I know of 2 places that refill propane tanks in the Glen Cove area. One is The Shed on Glen Cove Road. The other is Moretto Mason Supply on Sea Cliff Ave. Both about a 10 minute ride from Oyster Bay.

Re: Propane in Long Island Sound?

I just PMed you as well, here is some quick options

Are you still in Oyster Bay?
Is it a 20 pound tank ?
Is it legal?

This station is about a 1/4er mile up the road from the shore side tanks by the train station.

Or, Try calling OBMC Chanel 71, they run launch service and there’s a good chance the launch drivers could set you up with directions maybe a bike or a yachtie who can give you a ride.

Or, Seawanhaka Corinthian YC on center island may be able to accommodate

Confirmed swap only. It is illegal to fill tanks in Port Washington we are told.
The lady that works at (owns?) The hardware store is very nice and offered to get them filled if we could wait two days. We passed on that...

We moved on. The folks at OBMC did not know how to help. We are now at Port Jefferson. Groton sounds like a good bet for us.
