Puerto Rico via South Coast of Dominican Republic

We are contemplating Florida to Puerto Rico via the south side of Haiti and the DR as outlined in Frank Virgintino's "Thinking Man's Guide to Passages South" (free resource by the way, and very well written).

Has anyone used this cruising guide and taken that route? If so, can you recommend for or against using this route?
