Sailing the st Lawrence from Ontario to Nova scotia

Hello all:
It’s September 2nd. Thinking about making a get away out of Lake Ontario down the St. Lawrence to Nova Scotia. I have a 36’ sailboat. Is it too late?

Re: Sailing the st Lawrence from Ontario to Nova scotia

We did all five Great Lakes in Fintry in 2018. She's too big for the Erie Canal, so we went up and down the Saint Lawrence. Our return was the end of August. It was 12 days from Lake Ontario to the Canso Lock including a one day stopover in Montreal.

Weather was good, although I remember that we went inside PEI because there was a NE wind and being in the lee was better.

So, no, I don't think it's too late if you keep an eye on the hurricanes.

A friend of mine just left yesterday from Kingston. So it's probably not too late. He intends to be in Halifax by Cdn thanksgiving.

We left lake Ontario on July 5th, and were within sight of Nova Scotia on August 15th. We weren't pushing hard at all. (We went all the way up to Sept-Isle for instance). That's 6 weeks. Have you in Halifax before the end of October. Getting cold, but doable.

Take a look at where and how we went

Hi, Mark,
We sailed from Chicago to Rimouski, Quebec(1750 miles) in 2018. Be certain you have tide and current tables since once your past Montreal, you'll have to plan your route accordingly.
Best, Rognvald
