Re: Saint Petersburg to The Florida Keys

March and April are wonderful months.
Route is pretty simple along the coast. Southerly ish.

March can still have cold fronts that make it south and can bring cold to us Floridians. One such trip with the wife started poorly as my wife does not tolerate cold at all and "Florida boats" don't have heaters.
But we made it fast partly because after the fronts are winds that start NE and clock around to E then SE. Using the NE and E is sailing.

One trip to the keys from Hernando County (N of St. Pete) was down the intracoastal all the way using motor. And coming home was the same path with the same motor. Winds and calandar seemed to be off by 180°. Work schedules are a pain.

Re: Saint Petersburg to The Florida Keys

You shouldn’t have a problem on ICW with that height. Just need to call and time the bridges.

Re: Saint Petersburg to The Florida Keys

Are there any areas where we would be out in the ocean?

To me, it's much better doing that passage off shore, as long as the wind isn't from the north. Too many bridges and boozed up power boaters on the Florida ICW for me.

It’s a short hop out and in as you go north

Julia Tuttle bridge in Miami has a clearance of 56’. Maybe hit it at low tide…….
On edit: maybe try to go under it at low tide as you might hit it at high.
