Seeking advice for voyage to BVIs

In that size boat it's all about the wave state so I would suggest summer. Even though it hurricane season, that's when you are more likely to find flat water although increasingly difficult the further south you get. When I go offshore in a small powerboat I take a small sea anchor as so if the engine were to fail you can lie to the wind while hopefully working it out. I also mounted a small 6hp outboard which will allow me to help myself out of trouble (slowly) without calling for help. Went to the Bahamas last week (85miles from my dock) with 8 people aboard my 22' open fish with a 150hp Suzuki. Left an hour before dawn for cooler and calmer travel. On the way back put 4 people on the ferry as we had a few waves and did not want to stress the boat with the extra weight. Used about a hundred gal round trip including lots of running around for the few days we were there. 24-26 knots over and 16-22 knots on the way back. The key will be waiting for calm weather or going very slow.
