Spanish Cay Airport

I will be heading to Abaco next month. I have the offer of some crew who need to head back to the states shortly after arriving. I'm looking at checking in at Spanish Cay and I see they have an airport on the island. Does anyone know if you can catch flights out of there or is the strip there strictly for folks who bring their own aircraft in? I know you can charter planes but that's not in our budget. Barring that, can you get transportation to Freeport or marsh harbor from that end of Little Abaco? Thanks for any info.

For commercial flight, more convenient than Marsh Harbour might be the Treasure Cay airport which has a ferry landing north of the Whale Cay Passage, and has regular ferry service to Green Turtle Cay. I've made crew changes there several times.

Marsh Harbour of course has direct flights to the states and offers anchoring for all weather conditions. It's a good place to provision, etc.

I think the choice between Treasure Cay and Marsh Harbour really depends on your time frame and itinerary. Marsh is probably cheaper, and as I said, a good place to provision and anchor. If you enjoy the northern Islands, the Treasure Cay airport allows you to change crew without having to round the Whale Cay passage. While, not as big as Marsh Harbour, Green Turtle Cay has several small grocery stores, and some marine services.

I thought that there was a ferry that ran to Marsh Harbor from G. Turtle? Does it only go to Treasure?

There is no ferry from GTC to MH. It is much easier to get to GTC airport from a boat. You can anchor outside the ferry harbour and dinghy in. Then it is a $10 cab ride or a 15" walk to the airport. A cab from MH to Treasure Cay airport is $80.00 each way. A rental car will run about $100/day including gasoline. There are no scheduled flites out of Spanish Cay. Customs is available: I do not know what Spanish's landing fee is.

Yes, they both have regular, commercial flights from south Florida. In my experience, MH is usually a bit less expensive

Cheapest way back other than catching a ride with a private plane is: Twin Air Calypso, based out of FLL.
