Turks and Caicos

We passed through the T&C 15 or 20 years ago but haven't been back since. Anybody with recent T&C info? Is Turtle Cove still the best marina for a 42' boat? Is the new IGY Blue Haven marina just a mega yacht marina?
Is it possible to "gunk hole" a few anchorages with a 5.5' draft? Are there fun places to go and pretty (safe) anchorages? It looks pretty shallow behind the reef! Would the T&C be a fun place to base the boat for a few months?

Re: Turks and Caicos

Getting in and out of Turtle Cove is more of a draft issue than one of length. We draw 2m and even at high tide being guided in we plowed through some sand. 5.5' should be a piece of cake. I'd still take a marina guide boat the first time in however, it's a long winding route through the reef and lagoon.

Blue Haven does handle "normal" boats as well as the superyachts. It's certainly a more expensive choice, but does come with a lot of amenities. Only you can say if the resort amenities are worth the price. We enjoyed it as a rare luxury break.

Gunkholing is certainly possible, mostly on the south side of the Turks. You'll find lots of places to handle a 5.5' draft.

Everybody's approach is different. For us, a few months in T&C would have us running dry of things to do, and getting itchy feet. As for "fun" places to go... it really depends on what you consider fun!
