WANTED: Owners time in the BVI - Feb 2015

Greetings,

We are looking for charter boat with owner's time in February 2015. We are open to Monos and Cats alike. Many years experience.

Dates could be flexible.

Cheers

Aren't there sites that specialize in this, with reviews, etc?

Seems like that would be the place to look.

Sailonline.com has listings, not a lot though.

Owners time may be limited that time of year - I know Moorings and sunsail (two of the largest) don't allow owners time from Dec 15- Apr 15.

Re: WANTED: Owners time in the BVI - Feb 2015

I am interested in how this works. I know owners with boats in charter will get something like 12 weeks a year, can they "sublet" that time to you? It sounds like a conflict of interest between the charter company and the owner but I've no idea since I've never read those contracts.

Sounds like a good way to get a charter boat for cheap.

Owners time probably varies by charter company, but in a company like moorings/sunsail, owners can sell two weeks of time at whatever price they want.

I gotta dig into this! So no web sites where we can connect owners and renters? I'm going to look at some time share sites, see what's there.

Only place that I'm aware of to connect them is Sailonline.com where owners can list their time. Typically owners sell at 30% off the going rate.

I really don't understand this "owners time" concept. I'm beginning to think it's a myth. I read about it every so often on CF, usually posts from people looking for owners time. I made such a post a few years back. But I have yet to see anyone respond that they will give up their owners time at a deep discount. Why would they when they can simply let the charter company book the boat for the periods they can't use it? I've found plenty of deals over the past few years, but never with owners time. My best success has been negotiating directly with charter companies for one-way charters three or four weeks before the charter date.

I've got 2 weeks available next year on a Beneteau Oceanins 43. 30% off the going rate.

I think it is hard to find, because it goes quickly. I had all my 2014 time sold before the end of 2013. Just posted it on sailonline.com and already have had 3 inquiries. I'm not sure how it works with programs where there's no guaranteed revenue, but with the larger companies with guaranteed revenue, it's simply added income for the owner.

Not sure where you got that information, but it does not apply to our boat in the Sunsail fleet in the BVI.

Thanks

I have owned in Sunsail and currently own in Moorings. I'm not referring to owners using the time, but rather owners selling their time. If you are able to, I think that is more rare than it is the norm.
