Re: West to East North Atlantic Crossing

Lots of good advice above but you need to be a bit more clear on your cruising aspirations.

If you want to cruise the area between 3 rivers and Newfoundland, and get a good sense of it then that is at least a season in itself.

You can hug the N shore as suggested above or go along the NB, PEI, NS coast OR to from Gaspe to Magdelin Islands to the Rock. All good routes.

Then you can go North around or South around the Rock. North is colder, especially up the Straights but once you run South of St Anthony things warm up a lot. Lewisporte is a GREAT place to over winter should you decide to do that, none better along the route.

Doing the South coast the scenery is also beautiful with lots of not much. St Pierre et Miquelon is especially nice, more so if you are there on Bastile Day. There are places to lay up between there and St Johns, but St Johns proper has no yacht facilities. You need to go North and the South into Conception Bay to find yards.

Especially if going North do be in too much of a rush, St Anthony had snow on the banks last week of June last year.

Clearly I think this is a two year trip simply because there is soooo much to see and you will miss a great deal which ever route you take.

Some folks leave Lewisporte late June/early July and run through southern Greenland then to Iceland. But you could also go from St Johns to the Azores.

Many choices. Lots to plan.

Last hear the ice bergs were extremely thick and were somewhat problematic, for me at least. Hopefully th is year will be a lot better.

Re: West to East North Atlantic Crossing

One who did the northern route is Heiko, who left from Hamilton,Ontario, to Newfoundland, where his wife opened Rum-Runner's Inn.
I have done the Azores route from Saint-Pierre et Miquelon due south to the archipelago latitude.Fine weather all along.
