Xcalak, MX cannel

Any knowledge about the dug channel thru the Caribb. shore South of Xcalak and about 1.5 Mi N of MX/BE border (shortcut to Chetumal)? Well visible on google maps. Thanks.

Know the channel you are talking about, but have never transitted it. Judging from the lack of replies not many cruisers have.

I looked into this too, as near as I could determine the canal was intended for panga and other small boat traffic. I believe the canal is deep enough, it's the approaches that are the problem. From Xcalak the route inside the reef is spotty, and the western outlet appears to dump onto sand flats. Here's the wiki link for information on the canal

Re: Xcalak, MX cannel

Thanks, that helped, having the right name for search. Still no navigational info, tho. In google I see a big gap in the reef a bit N of the the entry. Should accommodate small gun boat, I would say. Does not show on some of the photos. Could have been blasted recently. I could be wrong. Will have to go and have a look :-)
