pirate 2 Found in Dinghy mid English Channel..

Had to chuckle when I read this..
http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2...nnel-in-dinghy
Two men (Iranian?) were found floating mid channel in an inflatable dinghy.. it is believed they were heading for the UK.
Dockhead, Pete7 and all you others on the South coast.. keep your eye's peeled for boat people.. you are the new Greece...

Reading articles of recent, this is actually happening in greater numbers. Some are very successful. And some not

Must have been a fin , bolt on keel, with in mast furling. Full keel would have made it. :>)

Well.. they likely had a bit of sea training on the way to France.. and a dinghy split two ways is way cheaper than the tickets.. I believe some services even advertise on FB.. can't check though as I've given up the site.. getting sucked back into the insanity.

Good to know they are fine! What a shame people are forced to such extreme attempts.

If they rowed a zodiac, they are indeed good rowers. For me anything more than half a mile and I am looking for reasons not to go ashore.

They were rescued after using their cell phone to make a call to emergency services, and then used the cell phone flashlight to attract attention. But, had no idea as to their location. Even without fancy marine nav. apps my phone tells me where I am

The invasion starts small.....

Curious to ask our friends on the southern shores of the U.K. if the news lines up with reality.

Not to hijack the thread but seems interesting.

How on Earth did they manage to not be run down? Pure dumb luck I guess.

Apparently the desperate are paying the gangs £10,000 for a chance in an inflatable across the channel.
You could buy yourself a nice rib or a small yacht for that money and take yourself. Just head north!

most likely dropped off closer to shore, within cell phone range, by a bigger boat.

Re: 2 Found in Dinghy mid English Channel..

When asked by the rescuing Captain what they were doing, the Iranians said "invading England". The Captain laughed and said "just the two of you?". They replied, "No, there are 50,000 of us, we're the last two".
