Re: 21 Meter Waves, Yikes!

thats not 21m. i was in stuff like that. Except we were reaching. We met occasional 10 m, just like on video.

As I always say, people like to exaggerate to make them feel better because they got scared and they probably think of them as good mariners and if they got scared must have been really something

Oh please... those are much larger than 10 meters. They’re on a 48 meter ship and they hardly appear “scared.” IMO

We’ve been in 7 meter choppy seas, and those waves in the videos look like mountains in comparison. Waves in videos always appear smaller than in real life.

That clip has been around for some time. Reposted I guess by someone looking for Youtube views.

i suspect what you think was 7m would really be 4.5m. No way this is 21m, if half of that would be about right.

I have objective way of measuring height.

Seas are full of amateurs, as evident by many ridicolous accidents lately. For some reason they have very high opinion about themselves.

Re: 21 Meter Waves, Yikes!

Last words I heard on the clip. I am getting paid for this.

Christmas Day. Rig Stand By Vessel. 61 North. Merry Christmas. Not being paid enough buddy.

Thems big seas, Steep and short. Be lucky if they get soup and sandwich for dinner.

Spare a thought for those who have to work today. Not all have the misfortune to be on a Rig Standby vessel. Still away from home to provide a service someone needs somewhere.

Love how everyone says you can’t tell how big the waves are until there this big and than they know. Next you will hear the electronics from the picture above was malfunctioning.

Big waves..

The smaller the boat...
the closer to the water...
the less scarier they look...

I think that is very true. In a small boat you only see the watery mountain in front and the one behind, plus a few annoying lumpy bits in between. Not seeing the monster that is following is good. When the monster reaches you it is just the wave you need to deal with and are about to ride up over.
