31 gusting to 40, wind in the girders

Here in lower Manhattan the wind is blowing 31 knots, gusting to 40. I'm listening to the building sway one way then the other. Period is about 5 seconds. Pretty tall building, even for here.

Wish I was out on Long Island sound in this, practicing some BFS things like heaving-to and lying-to.

(Glad I'm not in a Tartan, breaking in two, thinking of their oh-so-great legal team, wishing I was back in a swaying building on land.)

Still going on, although less. The window frames are creaking.

Wind over 30kn, 2-3m swell and no way to dinghy ashore; breaking waves over the bow at anchor (in 10ft with over 100 feet of chain out!). At least it is warm here in Grand Case

Isn't there a more protected anchorage for you?

It's cold, 1C, the sky overcast but the wind is mild 10 kt. The river is barely rippled. But the heater is warming my feet, I have a glass of red, and I'm thinking about spending part of next week aboard the boat instead of trapped ashore as I've been all this week.

Life could be worse.

Thumbs up

yesterday in north florida it was sunny and nice . i went out in the afternoon (in shorts and tee shirt) and found NW winds in the 8 to 10 range. i jib sailed for an hour or so and went back in only to almost run aground due to extreme low tides.

Yes, they could go around to Phillipsburg but the food is better at Grand Case.
