a new dual freq EPIRB ) ....that sinks (((

Yes my nice new personal dual channel eprib has the bouyancy of a rock.

Who thought that was a good idea?
If it gets away from you or tether breaks its finished

I want to firmly epoxy a small air filled tube to it so that it floats
Yes it will be a little bigger. so what
even if it gets ripped of by boat tanglement during crashing waves, it will float away and continue providing rescue location data. With time from activation and wind/tide info, they stand a halfway decent chance of finding me

Looking for a simple robust plastic tube solution. any ideas?

You will have to make it float with the antenna up or it won't work.
Good luck.

Sounds like you bought a PLB not an EPIRB. IIRC, actual EPIRBs are required to float. PLBs are cheaper, though!

Exactly as Hartley described.

Most PLB manufacturers sell a floatation case/collar for their particular device. But, PLBs are not designed to float with the antenna oriented to the sky like EPIRBs are required to…

Another difference is PLB batteries must run a minimum of 24 hours; EPIRBS 48 hours. EPIRBS sold in the US [and some other countries] must also auto-activate when floating in water. PLBs are all manual activation.

We carry both; EPIRBs are registered to the boat; PLBs are registered to individuals.

In case this helps you decide what best suits your needs.

Cheers, Bill

Maybe make a mini MOB pole out of those dive flag floats. They come with lead for one end of the pole to keep it vertical, sunny side up.
