ACDelco Batteries

Hi all ....
Have ACDelco Voyager Deep Cycle Marine batteries installed on my boat.
Trying to work out what settings (ie; what type of battery)
to set on my battery charger.
Charger is an Pronautic 12.60 with options for ....
Flooded
Sealed
AGM
GEL
Lithium
Calcium/Custom

There is absolutely nothing on the batteries to say what type they are and the ACDelco website offers no info and they do not reply to querries at "contact us"

Obviously the batteries are sealed types, probably of a lead/acid type which would make them either
Sealed
AGM
GEL
or Calcium

Any help out there appreciated

Try calling them. Some companies don't have a clue what a "Contact Us" e-mail is all about, but they do sometimes remember how to answer a phone.

Re: ACDelco Batteries

Thanks ...
Yes, I agree.
As I live in Hong Kong and there is a 12 hour time difference to the East coast USA that can be problematic.
Obviously don't want to spend 30 min's on hold paying extortionate phone charges while they try to locate an 'expert"

Have you read the web page for your battery? It says:
Quote:
FEATURES & BENEFITS
Thermoplastic reinforced separators maximize protection against plate shorting for optimum durability
Built-in “Green Eye” hydrometer on certain deep cycle batteries, for quick-glance state of charge monitoring
The extreme bond of our reformulated negative paste to help resist flaking to optimize overall performance and life
Both positive and negative grids are lead-calcium alloy, to maximize corrosion resistance, and cycle life, and minimize water consumption for battery durability
Framed Positive Grid is optimized for conductivity, vibration resistance, and offers superior cycling performance
Dual 3/8 inch stainless steel stud and SAE post terminals
100% pressure tested to reduce the possibility of future leaks
Maintenance Free – no water required and therefore are maintenance free
Strong and comfortable handle for easy portability
Reading that, it appears they are calcium.

Re: ACDelco Batteries

Agree calling/emailing the manufacturer would be the best thing to determine which charger setting.

With that said, based on the description that they are a sealed lead/calcium battery, my best guess would be to treat them as a "sealed" battery.

It's definitely not a calcium/calcium battery.

Didn't see any voltage specs (which would be helpful), so again w/o such info contacting the manufacturer would be best.

Re: ACDelco Batteries

Looked again and under "maintenance tips" it did give some charger tips.
Professional Voyager Deep Cycle RV And Marine Batteries | ACDelco

Use a taper type charger set at 15.0 volts: For best results, a 10-15 amp taper type charger is recommended to recharge ACDelco Voyager models. Taper chargers help avoid overcharge by reducing the charge rate as the battery nears full charge. Follow instructions provided with the charger. • Determine the charging time that will be required. Check the built-in indicator and charge the battery for at least the number of hours shown in the charging table (located in “Charging Instructions” section). If the green ball is not visible in the indicator after charging, tap lightly on top to dislodge trapped air bubbles that might keep the green ball from floating into view. For the most accurate results allow the battery to rest for 12 hours then measure battery voltage, 12.8 volts is fully charged.

Didn't see any additional "charging instructions" nor table on the site though.

Re: ACDelco Batteries

ACDelco tend to be great folks who have everything documented on line, unlike some companies that only will say "That's customer proprietary information, we can't tell you."

http://www.acdelco.com/content/dam/A..._VoyagerSS.pdf

The picture seems to clearly show fill caps. If those caps are sealed down and do not come off, then the reference to the "charge eye" means they are simply "maintenance free" aka "Maintenance impossible" sealed wet lead batteries.

Making your choice "Flooded" if the caps come off, or "Sealed" if they do not.

Back in the 70's ACDelco thought "Maintenance free" batteries were a clever idea. These days? A cruel joke on most buyers, especially for marine use where topping off the electrolyte can be critical.
