Re: ADMIT IT!

There is no TV on our boat. No bills. No lawn. Eight trillion gallon pool with no rules or lifeguards. No speed limit or lanes. I don't care if the power goes out. When the rest of the world retires indoors to watch tv we snuggle under a blanket and count stars.

Isn't running away from something the same as moving towards something.

Re: ADMIT IT!

The OP thread starter reviews the replies:: many decisive YES, couple NO's --- and a lot of interesting rationales. Keep them coming please.

Re: ADMIT IT!

This is a comment on some of the OPs comments---This stressful world today is full of idiots. It seems that these are increasing-and fast! The only college course I ever took was 'Psychology 101'. One part taught that people were very much like rats in their behavior. One experiment that proved this was that the more rats placed in a cage ( more rats added over time to same cage) the more neurotic and violent the rats became. Draw your own conclusions.

Relative to what ? :-)

But people are discussing weather or not if they are getting away from what they don't like or if they are drawn towards what they like. It is the same thing.

This sort of reminds me of driving a few miles out of Yuma, Arizona at night where there wasn't much water but lots of stars to count!

Or even here where there are maybe 1.7 million people in a 20 square mile area. It's maybe a 3-5 hour sail to be totally in the boonies with lots of stars, wildlife, and nice trails to hike (and cliffs to climb)

A few hours sail the other way, you can have your 6-8 mile traffic backups, movie theaters, restaurants, health food stores, gyms, places to cycle, .......

It's all about variety ..........which is why I think I need a faster sailboat.

Re: ADMIT IT!

I've travelled a lot and I don't find people to be so nasty, on the whole. The other items you mention are indeed benefits of sailing but sailing is not the only way to peace and tranquility.

I sail because I love sailing, using the wind.and currents.
