Re: Anyone Use Bean Bag Chairs in the Cockpit

There is a cheap do it your self device which can enhance the comfort of the cockpit considerably.
Most cockpits are inconfortable because the coamings/back rests are to low to support our back properly. At best we can lean on our elbows on top of the coamings.
The device is a mere 10 mm thick x 30 cm wide x 50 cm high plywood board.
Inserted between one's back and the cokpit coaming, it is extremely comfortable.
You can make it event better by glueing 10 mm of foam cut out from a beach matress. And choose your colour
And so easily stored.

Fill the bean bag with those moisture absorbing pellet/packets and never have a condensation problem again!

They are a fantastic way to store matching canvas when you need it for a new winch cover.

Re: Anyone Use Bean Bag Chairs in the Cockpit

I have never had a bean bag chair on a sailboat.... however I have had them on a fishing boat and it made passages great. I believe we covered them with some pleather and they wore nicely and dried out quickly when wet.

I do think that on a boat smaller than 33', then there might be some problems storing them.

Re: Anyone Use Bean Bag Chairs in the Cockpit

I love my big vinyl beanbag, most comfy boat seat ever, and resonably waterproof. It lives right up in the bows of the boat, Fwd of the v berth when it's not being used on deck. I'll definitely get a few more.

We have 2 bean bag pillows for the past 20 years. The covers are made from Sunbrella with phifertex piece in the bottom to act as a drain. Easy to make and then you can make whatever size fits your cockpit. We love ours and they are in use all the time. But we are in the tropics almost all the time
