Re: Anything scary ever happened?

I just have to pass this to you after those posters said that stuff going missing on their boat does their box in. There is a story in viz comic ....Adult humour, just humour, not porny or anything....And it was called the search for the giant squid of Sumatra. I guess you'd have to buy the whole comic for about three quid which you can do online and receive it electronically. It is certainly worth the money. If anyone does buy it I promise you will be more than happy you got it, and will want to keep getting it. I think that this is where you go to get it https://www.magzter.com/GB/Dennis-Publishing/Viz/Comics/203113. It is the one with Donald trump on the cover with stars and stripes etc. So funny, true genius stuff. February 2017 edition.

Re: Anything scary ever happened?

Different kinds of stuff scares different people. One of the scarier things to me happened on a full moon night, somewhere between New Caledonia and Australia. Suddenly, I could pick out the black outline of a ship, unlit, on a collision course with us. I turned us the standard 90 deg. to stbd. And the ship sailed on by. Perhaps a couple of furlongs off, his lights came on, accompanied by a claxon sounding repeated loud blasts. Could not see what was going on, and eventually made a blind call on the VHF if they required assistance, no response. i resumed proper course and sailed on, but it sure was weird!

Re: Anything scary ever happened?

This happened to me several years ago on our 38' yawl "Victoria" built in 1911. My wife and three children were on a two week vacation in the south Puget Sound area. We were between Seattle and Bainbridge Island when my youngest daughter age 10, came up from below and said "Dad the toilet won't flush!"

Re: Anything scary ever happened?

our 34'wharram slipping along silently at 2-3 kn through a beautiful night in the middle of a peaceful solomon sea, the lady asleep down below, I'm sitting on deck enjoying the quiet going. suddenly a faint but distinct gurgling, swishing sound in the water on the far side of the boat. sitting I reach for the flashlight & shine it across the deck & see the unmistakeable shape of a sharks dorsal fin projecting a good foot past our freeboard & slowly gliding aft...must have been a minimum 1m high...at the very least...
