Bahamas nav chip

First time sailing to Bahamas and looking for advice on whether to get a different chip. We have a Navionics+ chip in a Raymarine plotter. Any other chip people have used?

Re: Bahamas nav chip

C-map uses explorer chart data, and has the raster charts included on the chip.

We did this with an Axiom plotter. I’d say I used the taster charts 80% of the time.

Re: Bahamas nav chip

Highly recommend hard copy of Explorer Chart Books for Bahamas. There are three books: “Near” for Abacos, “Exumas”, and “Far”. They are the gold standard for Bahamas charts and act as a good cruising guide. The charts were derived from actual surveys by the founder of the company. Electronic versions are available for plotters that can use cmaps, don’t know if that works for Raymarine. But you can also get Explorer electronic on Aqua Maps for phone or tablet apps. In any event, the hard copy books are a “don’t go without” item.

Re: Bahamas nav chip

We have Raymarine equipment but for the Bahamas we used Aqua Maps with Explorer Charts on an iPad and our iPhones and found them to be spot on almost all of the time. Navionics was surprisingly almost worthless. We found little use for the paper charts, but they did have a few local hints and explained how to use the charts.
