barboat cruise in Abacos, 2 weeks, mid July 2015

Bonjour,
We are a french family and we have a project of sailing bareboat cruise in Abacos , starting beginning of July or mid of july 2015 for two weeks.

I know it's hurricane period, but inspite of it ,
Are the sailing conditions good in July ???
What about weather ??
I would like to know more about thunderstorms
It looks nice to sail even in july but, we can have some thunderstorms in the end of afternoon !
Could you tell me more about it

waiting for your answer
best regards
From Alain

We have been in the Abacos the last 2 years in July and will be here again this year. There is usually good wind for sailing and it is not too hot. Thunderstorms can happen and anytime, but they are usually over quick and there are plenty of protected anchorages and Harbours to hide from any associated winds. It is a little early for the formation of hurricanes and not likely to happen.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Alain.

Winter cold fronts (Canada Clippers) have usually ended by April or May, and the spring thunderstorms and squalls begin in May June, usually occurring in the afternoon (20 minutes, and they're gone).

Alain,

July is a fun time for sailors in the Abacos. Check out the "Regatta Time in Abaco" website. The parties and races run from 3 through 10 July this year.

Well I will warn you that the Abacos in July can be very wet as some years a persistent trough can setup in a line from west Cuba over s Florida and across the Abacos. You have a better chance of good weather in the Exuma's though not as many charter choices. At that time of year you WILL encounter thunderstorms where ever you wind up. You should consider going sooner rather than later for the best weather. May, June and the first half of July are wonderful months in the Bahamas. Bon courage!

You're right Exuma's looks wanderfull and more south for sailing during this period.
I don't know if it's allowed to go there from Marsh harbour. I have to ask to the compagny.
I have already work about Exumas from Marsh harbour and it looks ok with 2 weeks but i have to find more information about Exumas

You can look at www.navtours.com from the Exuma's . You did not state your experience, you should know that the Abacos are much easier for beginners. Lots of other differences between the two areas as well.
