Boat insurance roughtimate for clear lake TX

Hi all,

We'll be relocating from Norway to Houston in September. Before going through the song and dance of getting insurance quotes, I wondered if anybody could give indicative annual numbers for insurance for:

New vessel/engine/rig etc (2011 Bavaria 40)
$220k value
40'
To be moored in a marina in clear lake area

Our current annual for the same vessel in Norway fully comp. is around $1000

Rough numbers or equivalents in TX would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Phil

Three years ago in the hurricane zone of Miami I paid 3.2 % of hull value.

Tabbycat is a member and sells insurance. I'd heard that about 1.5% for non hurricane coverage is the norm but alas I am boatless so I don't really know. Good Luck BOB

I've seen rates in the area from 3.7% of HV all the way to 6%. Much depends on your sailing resume. Also, rates might be a bit higher just now as we are still recovering from Ike which means the insurance companies are RECOUPING from Ike.

Thanks all, and wow! Who would have thought that Norway would have been cheaper on such matters... then again, we only get battered by 'technical' hurricanes (>33m/s) each January/Feb, and cross moorings and floating pontoons etc are standard stuff: nothing on the scale of Ike..

On the idea that Ike was an 100 year storm, does anybody know whether insurances minus hurricane coverage are available? as 2-6% of hull value puts the insurance costs squarely in the realm of property taxes!
