Whic ever is at the right price point.
Mr. Chakil,

4-5 year old Lagoon 39's are already at a quarter million USD. So, are you predicting they'll be at half that next year and less the next? The reality is that unless you can take a 25% price hit the day you take possession of your new to you boat, in any economy, then you are playing a game you don't understand.

My information is coming from places where boats are sold and my own experience with what is now closing in on 100 legitimate inquiries on the boat I listed. Yes, I have turned them all away until after the virus settles down a bit.

Where is your information coming from?

Of course, 100% of my info is from US buyers. Globally, maybe the market did die. I have no idea.

Re: Boat prices after Covid 19

Boats are paid in US$ (except in EU).
26. Jan. 2018 1 US$ = 0.80 EUR
7. May 2020 1 US$ = 0.93 EUR

Now I get less US$ per € because € is getting stronger and NOT weaker as Chakil wrote. For me (German) that's more worse ...
If the EU economy will stumble in the future and the US economy sky rockets (as Chakil wrote) the exchange rate might be 1 US$ = 0.50 EUR. That means I pay 200k€ for a 400k$ catamaran. That sounds much better for me.
And cruising the world would be nearly half the cost because I exchange € into US$ and than back to local currency.
But who on earth believes that?
Or I am totally wrong?

Re: Boat prices after Covid 19

If the US$ gets stronger (as chakil expects) the exchange rate will be 1$ = 2EUR in the future and you will have to pay 800kEUR for the 400k$ cat. In my case that sounds good: If I will sell my boat in two or three years I'll get 800kEUR for my 400k$ cat

Oh no...
That's far above my budget. Impossible to pay you 800k€.
I'm very sorry J.R. ...

In 3 years we will know ...

Re: Boat prices after Covid 19

My bet is on the prices to drop. A global economy crisis is under way.

People will have less cash and will be trying to sell off good they do not use.

My current guess is that different boat market sectors will be hit differently. The market that most here seem to be interested in - the bigger, late-model offshore-capable monos and cats - I believe that it won't sag much, because most who own such boats are sufficiently well-off that they won't be forced to sell at fire-sale prices to keep a roof over their heads. Might even be a surge in this market as people in that bracket decide to get out of the rat-race and just play.

The biggest threat in this high-end market is a multi-year restriction on international cruising.

Re: Boat prices after Covid 19

Lake Effect,

Late comer to this discussion and not looking to buy as we are happy with our boats. That said, I’m thinking that in some months you may see deep discounts on boats. Why?

I imagine some guy who is part way into a charter boat purchase. He has a mortgage/loan he expected to pay off via the chartering income. But the situation is now different. He has taken some personal income hit from the virus, there is no charter income for the foreseeable future, he has dockage and maintenance and insurance fees. So there will be a strong incentive to dump the boat and stop the bleeding.

Is this scenario common enough to drive the market down?
