Re: boat purchase in eu

If you consider boats in Netherlands then use the site www.Botentekoop.com - every boat for sale in NL will be on this site.

There are a bunch of other sites which most boats for sale will be listed on - e.g. www.yachtworld.com

Francophone internet is a bit insular though - the French will tend to prefer local sites, and French sites often have no English translation available. Search for things like "Westerly Fulmar a vendre" or "Westerly Fulmar annonces".

Also the Facebook group "Sailboats from 1000 EUR".

Question Re: boat purchase in eu

Hi, we are newbies to this forum ....we are Australians who want to buy a boat in Turkey and sail it around the Med. However, the EU limitations of 90 days out of 180 make this difficult, with our options to go back to Turkey or Croatia/Tunisia etc. We read of people who sail for years around the Med so how do they do it if they dont have an EU passport acceptance? We could apply for an extended Greek visa (one year) or perhaps Turkish residency but then we would be up for VAT? Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.

If you become defacto residents you expose yourself to VAT ( you can’t really have it both ways ) because the TIP procedures ( 18 months ) are only available to those “ not established within the customs union “

What you will find , especially in Greece , is people living “ under the radar “ potentially in a vat default situation but relying on the lack surveillance

If you can live with that , hey it’s your life

Overstaying your visa isn’t a good idea. So while the boat can stay longer then you, you need to resolve the process of how you get beyond the 90/180 restriction of holiday visas.

But legally you can’t have your cake and eat it. If you want to “ live “ in the EU , you will get treated like a Eu resident.

And don’t believe the” stories “ , many of my U.K. friends are now leaving having used up their 90 days. They will return in the autumn.

There are many dead, dying, abandoned and repossessed boats in various yards, fields, anchorages and even marinas (in Greece at least). Very few would be actively marketed, but the difficulty is it's up to you to do the legwork to find an interesting project. Establishing who actually has legal title to dispose of such a unit may unearth more difficulties, but you don't know till you try.
If you have an address in France, you would (probably) be able to get French registry and thus unlimited EU access.
