Boat Vinyl Lettering

Looking to get the name printed out for our boat so we can get it applied. Nothing special or out of the ordinary. Got a quote from one place for $75 or so and then another place for $525 installed. Quite the difference. I think the first is similar to BoatUS lettering. Any reason to use the more expensive place versus something like BoatUS? It’s a new boat so don’t really want to skimp but these are two very different spectrums.

I used this place. Have not put it on yet, have to get the paint done first.

Was reasonable. $33.00 total for the decal. I want to say the letters are 2 or 3"

I've gotten vinyl lettering through BoatUS before and I've been happy with the quality. So I wouldn't be afraid to order from them.

Re: Boat Vinyl Lettering

I use an ordinary vinyl sign shop; lettering that can be used on an automobile will work on a boat. The charge in my case is per foot of 36" vinyl that comes in a roll. Since what you specify is cut from a computer, you can arrange text to take up a minimum of vinyl.

Learning the apply it yourself is useful. You may be working with a curved surface, so cutting the backing between letters to allow the strip to bend is part of the task.

$525 is complete insanity. Id scratch that off the list.

Theres websites you can design and DIY for about $50. Or any shop can make one for about the same. I paid a guy $140 to do mine and install simply so I did not have to mess with it. If theres no design and its just a single color name with hailing port I dont think $100-$200 installed is unreasonable. $500+ is robbery.

Yeah. My 18" high name and hailing port for the transom, plus two 6" the same for the wheelhouse brow cost $125 from a general purpose vinyl shop.

I agree with the recommendation to go local. It's not a lot of money, and it's something you only want to do once, and do right. I tried to save a few bucks and install it myself once. Never again. This is one of those few things I'm willing to pay a pro for.

I have used this company several times, and have always received excellent service from them. They use high quality, cast vinyl, and their do it yourself design process is fun and easy.

I suggest playing with their design interface to create what you want, size it, and see what it costs.

The vinyl is easy to apply. Of course the hard work is removing your old vinyl and removing the ghost of the old vinyl image.

Well both shops I’m looking at are local. I’m just waiting to hear if the other will install as they aren’t close to the boat (45 min drive). The $500 one just sounds like a complete rip and is saying it will take 2 weeks to make due to their backlog. Just seems like another marine oriented vendor.
