Boom Tent Construction

An extended period of wet weather has my mind pondering ideas for the boat - in this case, a boom tent!

The boat came with good sails and a VERY clapped out headsail in a bag. That bag has been sitting in my shed for 3 years now, and I'm wondering: is it worthwhile cutting it up to make a boom tent? (It certainly isn't worth keeping to use as a sail.) If yes, are there any tips regarding constructing and setting a boom tent when there are lazy jacks attached?
