Broken part on deck, where did it come from?

I found a broken part on the deck (amidships) of a Hallberg Rassy 55 sailboat after a short trip. It's broken off somewhere and I can't see where. We've looked up the mast, at jammers and everywhere we can think of. Equipment on deck is mainly Lewmar (blocks and deck hardware) and Spinlock (clutches). I'm mindful that the other part of the item could have broken off and fallen in the water, so I've also looked for gaps where there should be a part but still no luck.

Can you help identify what the part has come from? The bit I found is about 20 - 25mm in each dimension and is made of a hard plastic, composite or similar, the two places where it broke off are labelled with arrows in one of the pictures.

Thanks

Is it an end stop from a track somewhere? Or maybe part of a stopper?
Also check ends of sliding blocks like on a traveler.

Do you have a mast mounted spinnaker/whisker pole?

Hi Weatherbird
Yes we do, the mast is Selden so I think the pole is Selden too. I presumably you think it might have come from there - whereabouts exactly? It would make sense based on where I found it and also I found it after we’d let the genoa sheet whip around quite a bit when furling it in, but I haven’t found any missing broken parts on it so far.
Thanks

Hi Cheechako
We can’t find any missing end stoppers or missing parts on the traveller, though I agree it looks as though it could have come from there.
Thanks

It has some similarities to these parts for stowing the pole.

Broken part from a rope clutch?

It came down from above, somewhere. Could have blown in from someone else's boat if the wind were strong enough. Might someone have put it where you found it as a prank?

One of the most frightening things to find on deck when off shore is a cotter pin.

Rumour has it that a certain pair of mods on this site would slingshot such hardware onto the decks of fellow race boats, thus gaining ground while the other boat frantically tried to figure out if their mast was about to fall down.

Ann, being much nicer than I am, would never do such a thing. I can't deny having done such things in a former existence, and long before we met!

Jim

PS A large rubber band will propel a split pin (cotter pin) several boat lengths in calm conditions (hint. hint).

Looks like it can be a broken off piece from a deck hatch mechanism. My Bomar hatches have similar parts that grab the hatch which you then clamp down.

Thanks s/v Jedi, I've had a look and the deck hatches all look okay. The mystery continues!
