.

Ive given up correcting anyone worried about unlit “rigs”. Production platforms at end of life is most correct for these structures.

We are planning to leave Galveston this December for Florida. I was wondering how your trip over went? Any advice?

So are we. Maybe as early as nov. weve done it multiple times. Easy peasy if your in the right weather window. Radar will help you relax, def some obstructions of you don’t go south before east.

Thanks for the info. We have several locals here at Pelican Rest who also advised heading South before East to avoid the heartburn of many platforms. I hope we can stay in touch to confer on the weather windows.

Re: Buddy boating from Galviston to key west

Im about to go the reverse from Mobile to Galveston the the next 3 weeks or so. Ill report on my experience with the rigs and wellheads.

It seems the farther out you go, the bigger they get. If you're unsure, just stick to the edge of the safety fairway is my plan.

Ive been in the Gulf a few times on fishing excursions. Never seen one of these "unlit welll heads"

My bigger worry would be oil tankers and cold fronts that time of year.

Re: Buddy boating from Galviston to key west

Thanks! I would love to hear your report.

Near the Safety Fairway is pretty far south and, from what I am told, avoids most all of the platforms and wellheads. I know from experience what the Texas coast is like and I hear the Louisiana coast has significantly more of them.

The ships are easier to see than the mess that exists as you travel closer to shore.

Our plan will be to follow a cold front East, after it passes through Galveston.
