Re: Buy a Boat, Sail Away

Now that's a good story, and I wonder how many people on this forum are looking at the $150.00 sailboat's on ebay with the same exact intentions. In the end that $150.00 sailboat almost cost him his life, along with expences, emergency room bills if he ever pay's them. At least the Coast Guard got some practice rescueing out of it.

stories like that are why I get a bit concerned when everyone's response is "go for it"...When the person asking has no experience and hardly a clue...

How many more of these rescues before the CG asks,"will that be MC or VISA" before any rescue operation begins. There funds are getting thin like every govt agency.

Really. The part of the story I found most horrifying is this: ""My Children's Toy" wasn't Williams' first sailboat purchase on eBay. He has bought four others since 2010, traveling from Texas to Maryland to New Orleans."

Yikes. At least he had the presence of mind to anchor in 120' of water before requesting a rescue!

Next time someone gets on the forum and wants to know whether he should purchase a boat he just found on ebay, we should direct him to this thread.

He's confusing "experienced" and "lucky so far".
