There is no one place where the weather is perfect all year. However, you have floating homes that you can easily move with the seasons. Quit bitching and start moving.

Re: Bye Bye Florida

This area in NC looks interesting with lots of creeks and small towns but for us it's really off limits; too shallow.

On the West Coast our 8' draft is not a problem, nor in Mexico where we are now, or most all of the places we visited in our world cruise, but the East Coast of the US seems particularly shallow to us.

We loved Pacific Northwest (including Canada) but after 20 years living aboard in the tropics I don't think we could enjoy the cold weather.

So for us, Mexico is the place: deep water, great anchorages, and very nice towns, and great weather.

Re: Bye Bye Florida

Stating the Facts:

"Almost four-fifths of Florida’s 209-percent population growth since 1970 has been from new residents moving into the state. Much of this in-migration comes from outside the United States – including 30 percent from the Caribbean and Central America, 17 percent from Asia, and 15 percent each from South American and Europe.

Welcome Snowbirds!
When Canadians move to the United States, they make Florida their number one destination. With over 31,000 migrants from Canada to Florida between 2005 and 2015, Florida saw more in-migration from Canada than Texas and New York combined!

It’s interesting how the different regions of Florida attract new residents from different places. Not surprisingly, Miami-Dade County is home to 26 percent of foreign immigrants who came to Florida between 2010 through 2014, most of them from Cuba and the Caribbean. However, north and south of the Tampa Bay area are the heaviest infusion of foreign in-migration from Europe, while in-migration from Asia leads the way in the Florida Panhandle.

Indeed, the share of Florida residents born outside the United States has almost quadrupled since 1900, up to 21 percent. Only 36 percent of Floridians were native to the state – down from 43 percent in 1950 – with the remaining 43 percent coming to Florida from other states."

Re: Bye Bye Florida

And also don’t forget about the East Coast and West Coast migrations.

Florida is like a miniature microcosm of the actual United States. East Coast people tend to land in East Coast Florida places. Mid western and West Coast people tend to land in western Florida places.

And Florida has some of the worst drivers in the universe. I have driven all over the country, all over the continent, and in many places around the world.

Florida drivers are by far the worst. You can’t go between Fort Lauderdale and Miami on route 95 and not see a car upside down on fire. Ha ha.

I attribute this to two types of people.

1) The driver that is so old they have no reflexes or ability to see anymore.

2) The driver that just migrated to the United States last week and bought their first car ever yesterday. Look out Florida, here I come. Ha ha

I agree completely. My mistake here was trying to highlight some patently false claims but inadvertently pushed someone’s self-esteem button.

I live in Florida but do not venture any further south than say .. st. Augustine. too insane with folks that aren't really from Florida.

Re: Bye Bye Florida

I would keep the location that was 1/3 the price and twice as good
as someplace else to myself....

As for Florida, suffice to say that my wife's family has owned property there for the past three decades (in one of those Cemetery Villages west of I95)and our last visit was a quarter century ago.

Re: Bye Bye Florida

We have found a great place in NC. Still too hot for year round residence. That's why we have a cabin and second boat Newfoundland.

Even Congress used to vacate DC in the summer months, too hot and humid. Alexander Bell had a summer place on Cape Breton.

Carib is fine year round, except those damn hurricanes and need to visit family occasionally.

Actually we like moving to different locations, change of latitude is good for us.

A fight between Florida and the Carolinas is like a fight between two cleaning ladies.

The one that cleans the toilet for a doctor feels she is more important than the ones that cleans for a judge.

Re: Bye Bye Florida

My wife likes Miami in the summer. It is almost hot and humid enough to equal what she is used to. She grew up in the Philippines and until we moved to the US in the late 80's she hadn't experienced low temp under 65f.
