Re: Catching Strippers While Cruising

Stripers are bottom feeders.
need to get the lure down.
read up on it.
Blue fish are more common and are more likely to get your bait.
Someone else mentioned live eels. Bunker also.
The pros use/sell ss line (it sinks) marked at 100 yard intervals - so xxx many yards out means so many feet down to match the depth. (need to get the lure down near the bottom below the blues).
Anyway - I caught exactly one blue all last season. A NY state license allows for 1 large and one smaller striper...

Re: Catching Strippers While Cruising

I'm guessing the OP is Back East. Chesapeake?

We get both stripers and strippers here in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta. For the stripers, I prefer casting with the smallest Daredevils I can get.
* Step 1. Anchor the boat
* Step 2. Open a beer
* Step 3. Cast lure
* Step 4. Drink beer
* Step 5. Reel lure in.
Repeat steps two through five as necessary. Meanwhile, keep eyes peeled for strippers.

Re: Catching Strippers While Cruising

I've caught a few strippers in my day, never eat them though, more of a catch and release.

Wow, I'm surprised, and a little disappointed , that this "thread drift" recovered to the intended subject.

The OP definitely wins the price for funniest first post.

Re: Catching Strippers While Cruising

No offense to the previous posters, but you will not be catching any strippers with their methods. The best you will get are a few follows, but you will lose them right before landing them. To catch a stripper you first need to spread around plenty of chum:

Then after you have a school of strippers feeding, you toss this in the water and hook them.

Make sure to take your time chumming first so you have a good size school at the boat before you start dangling the baited hook. Equally important, do not try setting the hook to quickly. Give them some time to really take the bait.

You're welcome.

You can try it, but in my experience most strippers will spit the singles before you can set the hook, nobody likes a spitter

I don't know about you, but to me she looks happier in the sea than flopping around in your cockpit.
