Re: CHEAP SAILBOAT SIGHTINGS

Thread is a good idea.

I just dropped my boat into the water a couple months ago at Lake Barkley, KY. One of the dock neighbors showed me a couple boats at the end slips that are obviously project boats that looks to have not moved in a long time. Not sure what kind they are but I wouldn't be surprised if someone tried getting one of them really cheap.

How about a Tanton 44 cat ketch? $9000,. Needs new motor, owner has 53 hp Yanmar that goes with the boat. Needs more too... but $9k???? NW Washington. A project I'm sure.
These are like a better looking, faster Valiant 42. I had the cutter version. It just sold again 15 years after I got rid of it... For $150-$170k.
This one's been in the family 25 years and been there and back.
Do you have more details or pictures? I don't want a ketch but that would be a bargain if the hull is sound.

Re: CHEAP SAILBOAT SIGHTINGS

Try not to post anything personal. If there is a boat your interested in, PM the poster. Please .
I want to be sure to try to keep the boat owners privacy. So, like I mentioned before please use PM when giving specifics, and the best, least intrusive way to find out if the owner is willing to sell, have the marina office pass a message. If there is no marina, maybe poster can leave a note on the lifelines.
Thanks

Re: CHEAP SAILBOAT SIGHTINGS

Great thread idea as I've been looking alot for a somewhat cheaper sailboat the last month or so. I've gotten several interesting leads...

Theres a Islander 29 at the city dock in Morehead City, NC. I was told it was towed there by the coast guard after the owner died while aboard (heart attack?). Free to someone willing to go through the paperwork and acquire registration on the vessel. Note that there may be a lien on the boat for being docked to the city pier/docks. I don't know if there is a fee for them there or not.

ALSO currently on craigslist for Essex, MD is a free Person Triton 29'. I'm sure its a project but hey..its free DANG I wish I lived on the coast where I could actually go out and LOOK!!

Dang...a Triton 29' would be a SWEET little boat for my oldest! Oh well. I'm on the wrong coast also and refitting our boat is all I can handle right now anyway. Great thread!

Re: Cheap Sailboat Sightings

There are a ton on Craigslist all over the US. You can search them all with searchtempest.com.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what kind of boat this is:

Owner claims it is a Allied Seawind and is asking 5800, but it doesn't look like one I've ever seen before (look at the ports, transom, and coaming).

EDIT:

Here is a CD27 for $4900:

Re: Cheap Sailboat Sightings

I cant tell for sure but I believe that is a Seawind 31 built in Puyallup WA and designed by Joe Trumbly. If it has a partial hard chine near the waterline that's what it is. Well built but defective design.... Terrible weather helm... I know... I built one and put my heart and soul into it only to discover it was unsafe...... Deep draft, narrow V hull in front of the keel and broad flat aft of the keel combine to make the boat unsteerable in certain conditions.

That's very good to know. I have a friend that was looking at it and I'll pass that information along.

I wonder if the owner actually thinks it's an Allied or if he's just trying to pass it off as one?
