Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease [SCTLD]
Divers should be on the lookout for reef sites with an unusually high percentage of diseased and very recently dead corals. If you see any instances of disease, please submit your findings via the survey form[s] below.

Re: Citizen Scientist Sailors

A long time ago, we were involved in estimating the numbers of migrating shearwaters (mostly), as we shared routes from the Islands to Australia. At that time, we took our guesstimated counts, recorded the position and time, in our deck log. At the end of the journey, I copied out all of those and sent them off to the collector.

What I'm getting at is that cruisers can easily fit reports into their schedules. I'm a great believer in paper for this--but those who are mobile phone literate can probably use them to record the time, position, and data, including comments.

Re: Citizen Scientist Sailors

Never been involved in such activities as being described, but when at sea I always use the empty wine bottles to drop overboard.
The bottle will contain a message stating the date and position of release, and asks the finder to report date and position of finding to the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, the message having the address on it.
Gee,, I wonder if I've contributed to any knowledge base???
Probably not, but it seems a nice gesture.

The Great Backyard Bird Count

The Great Backyard Bird Count takes place, around the world, February 18 through February 21, and you can take part from your own backyard.
It's one of the world's biggest community science events, where members of the public work alongside experts, to record birds in the area. Anyone can participate. Last year, over 300,000 people, in 120 different countries participated. In Canada, there were over 43,000 listed birds, submitted across all 10 provinces, and three territories.
That is a lot of data.

There are three really easy steps: you decide where you'd like to watch birds, like your garden, your local park, outside your office or your favourite nature reserve.
Then, you watch birds for 15 minutes or more over the four-day period, and then you record what you can see on the eBird app.
And if you don't know what some of the species are, that's okay! Birding is for everyone. As you said, there are some great tools like the Merlin app, which is essentially like Shazam, but for bird calls. If you hear a bird singing in your garden and you're not sure what it is, you record that noise and it will analyze it and tell you what it thinks that it is.

“Find changes on Comet 67P and help us better understand the history of the Solar System” ~ ESA's Rosetta Zoo

Between March 2014 and September 2016, ESA's Rosetta spacecraft kept Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko company as it travelled through the Solar System. Rosetta watched as the comet's icy surface was warmed by the Sun during its passage through the inner Solar System.

Now we need your help to sort through the extraordinary visual archive Rosetta sent back to Earth, identifying surface changes and helping us understand how comets, some of the most intriguing and fascinating among Solar System objects, change and evolve.

Rosetta was a unique mission - the first craft to fly with, rather than merely visit, a comet - and we hope you'll enjoy exploring and adding to its legacy through this project.

This is a game of Spot the Differences!
Using a program called Zooniverse, people can examine before-and-after images of a region, on the comet 67P, and note any differences they see.
