Re: communication between states and exumas

In Nassau and Georgetown, Great Exuma you can get US dollars at the banks there. In between the two places there are only a few places to spend money which is one of the big charms of the Exumas.
- - Internet access is available most everywhere in the Exumas either at marinas, villages, or some resorts have unlocked systems. However, you will probably have to pay for WiFi access in most places.

The Exumas have many hot spots and Batelco towers for your cellphone. A credit card is accepted in many stores and bars on the larger islands, the Land and sea park, and every marina, just like the Abacos. Georgetown and other larger centers of population have banks and even ATM. No worries! Have fun!

Re: Communication Between States and Exumas

Welcome Larkin. We did a post on our Beach House site on phones and internet in the Bahamas, You can read it here. This information applies in the Exumas. We found the banks in Georgetown to be open during the week and we were always able to get cash when needed. Others areas in the Exumas not easy. A list of Batelco towers can be found here but I can't attest to the accuracy. Hope this helps. Chuck

Re: Communication Between States and Exumas

Your best bet is your Batelco cell phone. Land lines seldom work as there seems to be very little maintenance on phone booths. The only place to get cash in the Exumas is GT. A couple of banks with ATMs. Wifi is spotty between Nassau and Staniel (pay wifi) and again between Staniel and GT. GT has two internet services (pay) but they are not as good as Abaco. There are places in town where you can get wifi too but at anchor only two services.

We found out last year in a seminar in Georgetown that if you have a kindle with 3g that you can send email get weather and more. All free no cost. We now own one as we had used the cell phones to stay in touch states side last year. But no more cell needed this year.

The Exuma Land and Sea Park offers internet access around their mooring fields. You can also use the internet at the park office. It is pricey though. When we visited last it was $10 a day for access or $5 for 30 minutes in the office.
