Re: Container floating 30nm off Noosa Yesterday

I wonder what kind of cargo is inside that thing? I have often wandered if I came across something like that floating out in the ocean somewhere, if there would be a way to peak inside. I guess not very likely unless you had an angle grinder with a stack of cut off wheels in the tool box (cordless of course).

I guess a bit silly but I am curious.

Floating awful high, probably full of Styrofoam packing peanuts on their way to the Amazon fulfillment center.

Yes, since much of it is out of the water already. If one were so inclined you could simply cut a hole on the top of it. Not saying it would stay afloat forever when the seas pick up though.

Surprised to see that one of the marine safety authorities which infest this coast haven't taken time off from issuing infringement notices and dashed out and put a light on it?

It looks like a refrigerated container???, you might not want to open it... but it would be tempting. I think I'd try if it was a normal container.

It stick out of the water quite a bit but I am afraid won't be too bright on the radar screens because of its angles...

Some strong SE wind coming, it'll probably end up on the beach.

According to a fellow cruiser, the Maersk container is now on the beach of Moreton Island. See:

Yep it's a reefer. You can see the 22R1 in the photo above on the beach
