Hi All

Just a few question that pops in to my mind .. when i¨m planning my trip to sail around the world .


1. how do you make time goes by while crossing the Atlantic or Pacific besides
when it is windy .. but how are you coupling with it i have been hiking when
I did not see a person for weeks but there the view changes and i did enjoy it
Does most Bigger boat have a NAS box installed so they can watch movies,
listen to music

2. If you are looking for crew for long term how should you start your search

Sorry to ask properly these stupid questions

Hi Mike,

Most boats do have a DVD player. On our boat here always seems to be something that needs done, soft shackles made, repaired etc.

Bring a musical instrument (preferably one you can play) - deciding to learn to play the violin going across the pacific may end up with you walking the plank!

Funny thing about passage-making, some love it and find ti very peaceful. Others simply can't stand and literally jump off the ship when they get to land.

You never know which kind you are until you try it..................

Finding long term crew? You can start here in the the CF crew wanted forum. You're Danish so you can contact the Danish Ocean Cruisers Association (FTLF) and advertise for crew there. Otherwise there are lots of website.

Thanks for the reply .. but was i was more looking in to was how long in advance should you start to look for Crew ..

for my self i would¨t mind having people on board for 3 month at the time if they can stand me or wise versa ... and this requires some planning from there side .. since i have already planned it from my side .. which is from roughly Nov.. 2014 i will be focusing on getting knowledge and training and so on .. and i plan to start my trip at the end of q4 2015 .. so should i start to look for Crew.. and i will become a menber once i know which boat i will buy.. which as fare as i know is a requirement on FTLF

I never watch movies on a passage as i dont have the electricity.
So i take heaps of books.

And very rarely get time to read!!!

I agree with Mark. It's amazing how you can pass the time just looking at the water.

If i were you I would start looking for crew this fall q4-14. if you are going to get to kånow them, you'll need time

yep you do have to be a member of FTLF but it only cost about 700kr per year

and I agree with Mark, I'm never bored and can spend hour on end just looking at the sea and thinking

having a boat will be a great step forward.

having a boat that is equipped,and prepared for the ocean will be the next step after that.

having a boat that is equipped ,prepared,provisioned,crewed and fueled up and ready to go is the last step.

i would start looking for crew somewhere between steps 2 and 3!

or about four -six weeks before planning to leave,generally i have found 2-3 months is about average for crew who stay onboard before they want to move on,some will leave after a week and a rough passage,others will want to stay forever!

Having the boat is a good idea. But you can get lots of good advice and informatin from FTLF (in danish). You can also meet guys and gals that have done it - experience worth its weight in gold.

I agree with Atoll - between steps 2-3 start looking for crew.

You shoud be aware that outfitting a long range cruiser will take at least a year - no matter what condition it was in when you bought it.
