How much is an imported beer in Mexico?
I know about Merida, Mexico where imported beers go for about US$5 (anybody for a Rolling Rock?) and domestic about US$1.75 but also in the Bahamas the high prices are normal. From WikiTravel: "In Freeport, the Port Lucaya Marketplace and Marina has many bars offering two Kaliks (and some other brews) for $5."

- - Down in Georgetown, Exumas the prices are also quite high. So much so that a lot of cruisers make sure they bring onboard an adequate supply for their sojourn in the Bahamas.

When I was in Freeport Beer was not a option.A sixpack of Miller light was over 8 dollars. But a bottle of Dewars Scotch that had to be two gallons was 35 dollars and a fifth of rum any flavor under the sun was only 4 dollars.
So when in Rome drink as the Romans I say.

Re: Cruising on $500 per Month . . .

Jefferson County, WA (where I live) has the highest per capita alcohol consumption of the entire state by far....and really high priced too

Not really. Sure by the six pack or case they are cheaper, but a single corona at a bar or even a convenience store is about $4-5 around here.

Sure at the bar last night I coulda had a MGD pint instead of moose drool for $5.5 for $3 but that's still not a buck.

And I wasn't really making the comparison to 'imports' in mexico, cuz that's kinda silly. I'd much rather drink a local Corona or Sol or <whatever> than an expensive 'import' nasty bud.

Re: Cruising on $500 per Month . . .

Around here "made locally" fetches more of a premium price than an "import"
A lot of stuff that is "made locally in Victorian seaport town" fetches extra. The economy of the town has relied heavily on tourism and yuppies.....the changes in the economy are making that harder to happen....just the businesses around here that price themselves accordingly are not adjusting for the problems in the economy

Really good Thai beers (Shingha & Chang) go for 40 Baht or about $1.30.

I have a small cat that should be kept light. As light as possible.

I am pretty sure I would have to switch to rum not too long after I got there. But I don't really like rum (untill the third or so )

Re: Cruising on $500 per Month . . .

That is why I suggested "an adequate supply," that could be a six pack or six cases depending upon your average consumption . . .

Pity no one has come up with 'Instant Beer'... they've managed just about every other 'Instant' or '5min' product....
Just add water..

Re: Cruising on $500 per Month . . .

It's not the "just add water" part that's the problem, it's the instant bubbles.

Ahhhh.... this man has never experienced 'Space Dust'
It was a crystalised powder sweet that came out in the 70's...
one poured it in one's mouth where... in a couple of seconds they started exploding on your toungue and spread to where ever they touched...
the shock when my son poured a 'Mega Handfull' into my hand which I chucked in my mouth prompted me to swallow in an attempt to stop this horrible experience....
Big mistake...
They exploded all the way down... extremely wierd...
My son was rolling with tears in his eye's....
Little Sod.....
