Cuba

Trump has put Cuba off-limits again. Will this affect our ability to insure our boats to sail there? What about returning to the States with a case of Havana Club rum?

Fair winds,

Leo

Re: Cuba

There is still some ambiguity in the new rules based on reporting i've seen so far, but it is not an outright ban so far as I can tell. Wally Moran of the Cuba sailing FB page will be doing a live webstream on youtube on monday (11/13). Should be a good breakdown of where things stand now. https://www.youtube.com/user/NorthChannelSailing

It's all about votes and the Fl cuban constituency and always has been for a long time now.

Re: Cuba

Personally, I am not going at this time, although have many ways to meet the requirements. I am fearful that our administration might do something at any time to antagonize the Cuban government. I don't want to be part of payback. Now, you think this is overreaction, I understand. However, ask any of the US citizens who suffered at the Embassy and perhaps elsewhere from an unknown source. With them having the ability and willingness to cause such harm to US Citizens, I fear provocation that might lead them to do other things.

The previous administration considered Cuba our friends. The current considers them our enemy. The Cuban government seems to follow the relationship we establish.

Re: Cuba

as the usa embassadors and consul workers have been attacked by sonic weaponry, it may be a reasonable idea to acknowledge the travel restriction.
i am sure your hooch will be safe in your boat. this is not about trade.

Re: Cuba

Sounds more like a case of mass hysteria caused by very insecure staff. Only Americans affected?, Strange indeed.

Sometimes you have to ask yourself how these Cruising Rumors and Myths get started?!? The Clarification of the Regs does not put Cuba off Limits to American Cruising Boats...so calm down...exhale...stop spreading myths and get the facts from Cuba Expert Addison Chan. He spoke last night on Cruising Cuba at the Seven Seas Cruising Association's (SSCA) Melbourne. FL GAM. In fact, the SSCA is organizing a Cruising Rally to Cuba of late March/early April 2018! So stop the internet chat room worrying and myth spreading and get out cruising, yes including Cuba.

It's probably not only Americans, just they're the only ones publicly reported. The reality is something happened, people were hurt seriously, and we don't know the what or the how. Definitely not mass hysteria caused by a very insecure staff. "Some can no longer remember words, while others have hearing loss, speech problems, balance issues, nervous-system damage, headaches, ringing in the ears, and nausea. Some have shown signs of brain swelling or concussions — mild traumatic brain injuries." I believe the latest count is 24 verified cases.

I filed under Support for the Cuban People two weeks ago and still waiting to hear back. One assumes the CG desk for Cuba has been fairly busy lately..

Re: Cuba

Nobody knows of ANY "sonic weapon" that could do this, without it being evidently noticeable. There is no "such weapon". So now we have imaginary weapons attacking people. This is even better than the nuclear scare of the 50s. Jeez.

No, we have some sort of sound or vibration that has not been identified leading to serious injury to many people. It's not some fake scare. Their injuries are very real and very serious. We don't know what caused it but we know it did happen and it happened in Cuba and especially to embassy workers. We know it's possible to use sounds undetectable to humans that could cause injury if the exposure was strong enough and for an adequate period. We have no idea though how sound or anything else was used in this situation.

However, there's nothing imaginary about what took place. Tell that to one of the victims.
