Now you've just got to get the mono guys to anchor from the stern, and all the rest of us will be safe.

When I was flying my cat yesterday I noticed that none of the mono guys was taking your advice.

Ahhhhh you have finally caught on to the true meaning of the Fly Bridge Cruiser.

A shot a took on an earlier fly past of Abell Point Marina on a better day.

A curved front will reduce drag and improve the flow, but it's the shape of the back of the bridge deck underside that is important. To create lift that would push the boat down, the bridge deck underside has to re-direct air upwards.

You don't need an aerofoil shape to create lift, it's just a good way to maximise the lift and minimise the drag.

Re: Cyclone Debbie

Come on, guys, please, please don't let this get into a mono vs. cat thread. There do seem to be a very few cats that do sometimes flip from moorings: there was one in Kettering, Tasmania 2 years ago, when it was moored temporarily on a lighter mooring so that a visitor could use the owner's regular mooring. An 80 knot microburst came through, and it flipped, and then fell on another boat, a timber mono that did not sink, but suffered a lot of damage. Every season, CF publishes a couple of pix of cats flipped.

But as one cat enthusiast posted one time, you don't get pix of monos that sink.

I really liked Kelkara's One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish rendition of the the cat/mono confusion, and I thank him for it. (No, I won't post a link, if you're interested, use the CF Search for posts by Kelkara. It will be a recent one.)

Nice altitude. What sails were you using?

Re: Cyclone Debbie

It's time to stop all this high school physics nonsense. We cat sailors have already come out from behind the dagger board so to speak, the cat is not only out of the bag its well and truly up in the air.

No I am not taking about those pussies flying The Americas Cup boats (heck that most rile the sailing purists)

Every body knows that there is more than one way to fly a cat.

Re: Cyclone Debbie

Flying your catamaran is very popular in Switzerland, they've been doing it for years apparently....do you need a PPL?

Re: Cyclone Debbie

Strictly speaking they appear to be Remotely operated drones?

As for you Paulinoz, that is clearly not a French Cat, are you deserting the fold.

"Nice altitude. What sails were you using?"

On auto pilot with, just cruising laminate sails.

With Carbon/Kevlar on a 21 ton Fat Cat, no altitude gain but the attitude may improve, but I doubt it.

Are you referring to the pictures or the Trolls?

Not just yet.

The French had a huge influence in Vietnam both in the past and still into the present day. Any chance some of that could be rubbing off.

Looking at the photo of the cat, I suspect that the flow is so turbulent that all this Bernoulli pontificating becomes silly. If I recall all that stuff at all accurately, to generate much lift, up or down, the flow must remain attached for much of its traverse of the wing (or hull or deck house), and that ain't likely.

But as Factor has said, ain't no flying cats been reported in Debbie. Who knows what stories will emerge as time goes on. some may even be true!

So, lets go back to sympathizing with those who have been hurt by the storm and trying to learn what we can in case we should some day be stuck in a similar one... no matter how many hulls we float upon.

Don't be there!

Like you, our plan for cyclone season is to be well south of the cyclone zone.

It also looks like marinas are not a great option, at least as far as keeping the boat safe. You're more or less at the mercy of the least well prepared.
